…at this point, with all the information that’s out there about the dangers of smoking, if you’re still smoking is it really the tobacco companies’ fault?
It’s a big frikkin world out there, and it is filled with smokers. California is just a tiny window on America, which is a little bitty window on the world. There are plenty of places where smoking is still common – even the norm.
Which is not to say that smokers aren’t irresponsible idiots. Probably mostly saying that the world is full of irresponsible idiots.
Curt and I got into a rather heated discussion about this last night. I suppose I should amend to say that it’s not that I believe the tobacco companies aren’t evil; I’m just making a point that there is an oft-ignored element of personal responsibility in the matter. I can’t speak for the rest of the world, but are there really people in this country who don’t know that smoking is bad for them? How bad for them do they have to know it is before it becomes their fault and not someone else’s?
